The 5 Washing Mistakes That Ruin Compression Leggings and Leakproof Underwear
Compression that’s gone after ten washes. Leakproof briefs that suddenly don’t hold. In most cases it isn’t the product, it’s the laundry. Five mistakes to stop making today.

The five mistakes
- Fabric softener. It coats the fibers. In compression it makes the stretch slack, in leakproof underwear it blocks the layers that pull liquid in. Never use it on either.
- Hot water. Heat breaks down the stretchy fibers that give compression its pressure. Wash cold or at 86°F, no hotter.
- The dryer. The worst one. High heat kills stretch and can warp the layers in leakproof briefs. Hang them to dry.
- Washing them with towels and zippers. Rough fabric and metal rub the knit. Turn them inside out and use a laundry bag.
- Too much detergent. Leftover soap stays in the fabric and makes leakproof layers slower. Use half the normal amount.
Extra tip for leakproof underwear
Rinse them in cold water right after you take them off, then put them in the wash. That keeps them fresh and stops smells from setting in. Don’t soak them in bleach, it breaks down the layers.
Extra tip for compression leggings
Have two pairs and swap them. The fibers recover their stretch faster when they get a day of rest, and you always have a clean pair for the morning.
